Today Jessica and I took the public bus to Manuel Antonio National Park. 25% of Costa Rican land is 100% protected! This small park has rainforest, lush beaches and islands offshore. We hired
an eagle-eyed guide with a Swarovski telescope.
His trained eye and telescope allowed us to see a toucan, insects, monkeys,
spiders & vegetation that we would have missed.
I made the treck in my Keen sandals. They are another wonderful choice from REI, stylish, durable, waterproof, sturdy, safe grip and comfortable.
After that interesting walk to the beach, our guide bid us adieu and we conked out on the beach for while. We’d brought our lunch, as there is no food sold within the park. We were at Playa Manuel Antonio, a beautiful cove where the water was calm and warm. We were treated to the antics of a family of Capuchin (white-faced) monkeys as they brazenly stole plastic bags of food. Then people started luring them down to the beach with food (against park rules).
Although I lugged my camera gear the whole day, all these photos were taken with my iPhone. Why? Because I left the camera on last night, draining the batteries and because I did not check the camera this morning and because I left my back-up batteries at home. Hopefully, I learned a lesson !!!
You hiked in a skirt? You DIVA you! <3
ReplyDeleteThank you! But the "hike" was more of a slow walk down a dirt path, (not physically challenging) as the guide was going at a snail's pace to be sure to spot flora/fauna & not scare any off anything with quick movements. It's a dress over my bathing suit. I'm from Northern California and not use to the heat & humidity, so the air on my legs felt good. It was so styfling I would have walked in my bathing suit but modesty prevailed.

DeleteSuch interesting growths in this rainforest. I love the photos of the monkeys.
ReplyDeleteI love the white mushrooms! Thanks for viewing! Seeing the monkeys at the beach made our day. They came so close to people but are very quick to move through the trees.
