Drawings

In 1984 I was selling IBM PCs.  Before that I had sold mainframe & minicomputers.  I was fired up about the new technology.  But nothing sparked the true artist, creative being in me like that first Apple 128k Macintosh.  It's design, functionality & ease of use ignited my juices and enthusiasm.  Now, 27 years later, the iPad is doing the same.  I also credit an amazing keynote presentation by John Paul Caponigro, "Illuminating Creativity."  (www.johnpaulcaponigro.com/)  He started his talk by urging each of us to pull out our iPhone or iPad and begin doodling throughout his talk.  I have been doodling ever since.  Below are some of my doodles.

It has come to my attention that my doodles look a lot like the artist Ellsworth Kelly's work.  Beforehand I was totally unaware of his amazing work.  I am humbly flattered by the comparison.  (http://www.google.com/search?q=ellsworth+kelly&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=imvnso&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=edq6TsDzG4OeiQLqw_D9BA&ved=0CEoQsAQ&biw=1222&bih=1328&sei=%2029q6TuLQJu7ZiALkruCKBQ)

Brown Cowgirl

Today I am acutely appreciative of being alive, as my very young neighbor just died of cancer.  Each moment is a precious gift; it's a treasured present. Learn from the past; plan for the future and live in the present.

Central Works

Since it's inception, in 1991, my friend Pat and I have had season tix to Central Works, a Berkeley Theater Company whose mission is to enrich the cultural environment of our community through the collaborative development and production of new plays for the theater: centralworks.org/.
  • We write, develop, and produce world premieres, offering our community daring, intimate productions at affordable prices.
  • We bring local theater artists together as partners in the creation and development of challenging new works, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and excellence.
  • We think globally, and act locally:  we make plays.
She was the night's photographer (iPhone4S) showcasing what I wore that stormy night to enjoy the current play, Embassy: a very funny, entertaining domestic, diplomatic comedy.  The Julia Morgan, Berkeley City Club is home to the shows.  The architecture alone is worth a visit.  Charcoal hat & black tights: Target.  Old Navy, gray, harlequin design sweater: gift from cousins Kathy & Danielle. Blondo waterproof boots: Walk Shop.   Boho black & pearl button wristies: Molly b.  Movado silver & diamond bracelet watch: Calistoga Outlet.   Red beaded bracelet: gift from cousin Gina.

Rust and Ready

It's officially fall; we had rain today.  The rust orange of this outfit is echoed in the fallen leaves and this redwood church.  Guest photographer today is Claudia using my iPhone4S.  Bee Stitched sweater just arrived gift from Kathy & Danielle.  Rust, crocheted fingerless gloves made of bamboo fiber: Bryn Walker (brynwalker.com/).  Second hand Etienne Aigner black boots.  The creator of the coral weeping bead necklace is my big news.  While shooting a wedding at San Francisco Hall on Monday I came across a very creative designer who is a street vendor, Julies Gifts 415.823.6396 (Jain2006@yahoo.com).  Being my age and without plastic surgery I look for the cover-up aspect of draping necklaces.  Her creations were so exciting I immediately scooped up four of them.  The pink & yellow chocker I didn't buy;  it isn't my style but it is so gorgeous I had to take a photo to share with you, in case any of you want to buy it.

Masai Beads Collar

This Masai collar would not stop calling to me. It's authentic, from Kenya. I happened upon Ethnic Arts in Berkeley, showcase rooms filled with ethnic art and home decor from all over the world: textiles, puppets, wooden carvings, jewelry, paintings and images that aggregate to the size of a warehouse.  http://ethnicarts.com/
I am not usually drawn to ethnic art but every morning after eyeing the above collar I woke up thinking about it.  Black Tribella shorts: Sola Lucy. Black t-shirt: Target.  Red boots so old the designers name is lost; they started life as high heels;  I had them converted to be more casual.  Red bracelet is an old belt.  Cowgirl hat: Target. My trusty Omega watch.
